A devastating fire at a private sauna in the city of Prokopyevsk, located in the Kemerovo (Kuzbass) region of Siberia, has claimed the lives of five teenagers.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed the fatalities on Saturday evening, January 31, 2026. According to a statement released by the Ministry, emergency teams were dispatched to a property on Kubanskaya Street after receiving a distress call at 8:22 PM local time (4:22 PM Moscow time).
"Five people died as a result of the fire. Preliminary data indicates the victims are teenagers," the Ministry stated. While the ages and identities of the victims have not yet been officially released, local reports suggest the group was socialising at the private facility when the blaze erupted.
Firefighting and rescue units arrived promptly to extinguish the flames, but the victims were found deceased inside the structure. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
The Kemerovo region has faced similar tragedies in the past, leading to increased scrutiny over fire safety regulations in private recreational facilities. Regional officials noted that information is still being updated as investigators comb through the wreckage to determine if any other individuals were present at the time of the incident.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims as the local community in Prokopyevsk reels from the loss of life.
