The firefighting department in the Catalan region of Spain has reported that a fire that broke out last Friday in the municipality of Portbou has engulfed around 600 hectares of forests.
In a statement issued by the firefighting department, they mentioned, "The Catalan government's firefighting department contributed funds to combat the forest fires in the municipality of Portbou, which started at 16:39 on August 4th. Thanks to donations and the involvement of aerial services, firefighters managed to contain the blaze."
The fires have devastated approximately 573 hectares in Portbou and the nearby Colera area. The police are currently investigating the causes of the fire.
Wildfires have been a recurring concern during the summer months in Spain, particularly in regions with dry and hot weather conditions.
The destruction caused by such fires can have significant environmental and economic consequences.
