Facebook Inc. confirmed on Thursday that one of its employees at the US city of Seattle office has been infected  with the coronavirus, announcing that the office will be closed until March 9.

The Social media giant pointed out that it has notified all employees in Seattle locations to work from home until the end of the month.

On the other hand, the online retailer Amazon.com Inc also reported on Tuesday the infection of one of its employees in the US.

It is noteworthy that Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, TikTok  and Netflex have announced that they would not attend  SXSW conference and festivals for the fear of coronavorus outbreak.

The big conference, also known as South by Southwest, is scheduled from March 13 to March 22 in Austin, Texas.

The drop in participation from major tech companies raises questions about whether SXSW will be canceled in the weeks before it's scheduled to kick off. More than 25,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org calling for the cancellation of SXSW. On Wednesday, however, Austin health officials said SXSW would go on as planned.

Facebook's decision wasn't a big surprise. The company canceled F8, its developer conference in San Jose, California, because of the deadly virus. Instead, the company plans to host local events and stream videos. The move also follows the cancellation of Mobile World Congress, the giant mobile phone conference held in Barcelona and the postponement of the Game Developers Conference.

Amid concerns related to Coronavirus, World Health Organization (WHO) raised awareness about the issue and its transmission methods.

Egypt has also launched a new website aimed to spread awareness among Egyptians about China-originated Coronavirus that appeared in December 2019, the state’s cabinet media center reported on Monday.
