Reports: Explosion Heard, Dark Smoke Seen in Libya's Tripoli

Residents in the capital of Libya, Tripoli, reported that a big explosion echoed in most parts of the city early today, where black smoke seen covering parts of the sky.

Local TV stations reported that a suicide bomber on a motorcycle detonated an explosive device at the entrance to the highway coming from the west, but there was no official statement released so far on that.

If confirmed, the explosion would be the first of its kind in more than a year.

Politically, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio welcomed the ceasefire statements by Parliament Speaker  Aguila Saleh and Fayez Al-Sarraj, head of Al-Wefaq government.

Di Maio said in statements carried by the Italian agency Nova as he was heading to Tripoli this morning that his country: "supports the ceasefire, and believes that external interference must stop," referring to the Syrian mercenaries brought by Turkey to Libya.

On the other hand, the site "ItamilRadar", which specializes in air monitoring, revealed that Turkey had sent two military cargo planes to Libya in light of continuous Turkish violation of international resolutions on the crisis in that country.

The Italian website stated that two Turkish military cargo planes landed at the Uqba bin Nafi base in the occupied Al-Wataya region of Ankara this morning, and then left, returning after unloading their cargo.

Mean while, a Turkish delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Sadat Onal, has concluded talks on Libya in the Russian capital, Moscow.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry in Ankara said that the inter-ministerial delegation headed by Onal headed to Moscow for two days, to end today, to discuss the situation in the region, especially in Libya and Syria.
