European Council President António Costa called on Tuesday for all possible efforts to be made to uphold the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
He also urged all parties to re-engage with mediators regarding negotiations for the second phase of the agreement.
In a post on the social media platform X, following a meeting between European Union officials and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas ahead of the extraordinary Arab League summit on Gaza in Cairo, Costa stated: "The European Union urges all parties to make every possible effort to maintain the ceasefire agreement and secure the release of hostages. Humanitarian aid must be delivered to Gaza immediately, safely, and without obstacles."
He further reiterated the importance of resuming communication with mediators to advance discussions on the next phase of the agreement.
Costa emphasized that the EU supports the Palestinian Authority and its reform agenda, stressing the need for the PA to play a crucial role in Gaza in the "day after" the war.
It is worth mentioning that, European Council President arrived in Cairo on Monday to attend the extraordinary Arab summit on behalf of the European Union.
