The World Bank and the European Union (EU) became observers of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), during the fifth ministerial virtual meeting on Tuesday, with the participation of Egypt's Petroleum minister Tarek El-Molla, and Cypriot Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry Natasa Pilides.
The World Bank and the EU were accepted to take part in the EMGF as observers.
Forum members are currently Egypt, Cyprus, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan and Palestine, while the United States is participating as an observer.
In a joint statement, the energy ministers affirmed their determination to continue working to achieve the objectives of the forum, and to fully respect the rights of its members to their natural resources and in accordance with international law.
It is also noted during the meeting that all members signed an agreement that the forum headquarters would be based in Cairo, while announcing the launch of its official website.
