The European Union has provided €100 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan since the beginning of this year, according to a report by Afghanistan's Khaama Press news agency.

This aid, equivalent to about $111 million, reflects the EU's ongoing commitment to supporting the Afghan people during a time of crisis.

Eric Mamer, spokesperson for the European Commission in Brussels, confirmed that the aid has been delivered through partner organizations working on the ground in Afghanistan.

Since August 15, 2021, when the Taliban regained control of the country, the EU has continued to provide critical humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

The situation in Afghanistan remains dire, with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warning that 23.7 million people in the country will require humanitarian assistance this year.

The need for aid is underscored by recent reports from the World Health Organization (WHO), which indicate a sharp rise in cases of certain diseases in Afghanistan during July compared to the previous month.

The WHO's latest report highlights a concerning 20% increase in suspected measles cases, a 67% spike in cases of acute diarrhea, and a 20% rise in severe respiratory infections in July alone.

Specifically, the number of suspected measles cases reached 7,779 in July, marking a 21% increase from June.
