The European Union Delegation to Egypt condemned on Saturday the terrorist attack that targeted a water pumping station in western Sinai and resulted in the killing of 11 soldiers, including an officer, and the injury of five others.

“The European Union Delegation to Egypt condemns today’s attempted terrorist attack in the East Canal area,” said the statement of the EU Delegation to Egypt.

In the same context, the EU Ambassador to Egypt, Christian Berger, said “our deepest condolences go to the families of the killed soldiers” and wished “for a speedy recovery of the injured.”

It is worthy to mention that the spokesperson of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Colonel Gharib Abdel Hafez, announced that a terrorist attack on a water pumping station east of the Suez Canal had been foiled.

In an official statement, the military spokesman confirmed that a group of Takfiri elements attacked the East Canal Water Lifting Station checkpoint on Saturday.

“The attack was foiled by the checkpoint personnel, but it resulted in the death of an officer and 10 soldiers as well as the injury of five others.”

“The terrorist elements are being chased and besieged in one of the isolated areas in the Sinai,” the statement added.
