The European Commission announced new tariffs on select US imports in response to the implementation of former US President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum.
The decision, set to take effect on April 1, reinstates duties previously imposed by the EU between 2018 and 2020 as a countermeasure against Trump's trade policies.
The move follows Washington's renewed tariffs, which impact European exports valued at €18 billion.
The European Commission also introduced additional countermeasures targeting US exports, with the total value of affected American goods potentially reaching $26 billion.
Despite the tariff escalation, the EU has expressed openness to negotiations with the US in an effort to resolve the ongoing trade dispute.
