The European Union criticized Israel’s Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir storming the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"I would like to recall the importance of preserving the status quo of sacred sites. We as the European Union are concerned about steps that contradict this," EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in a statement on Wednesday.

"It is important to preserve the status quo of sacred sites, adding that the EU is concerned about steps that contradict this,".

Borrell explained that the past few weeks have already witnessed a dangerous rise in tensions, with deaths and injuries

He stated, "de-escalation is the word of the day, de-escalation is the order of the day," noting that the EU calls on all parties to exercise restraint.

Ben-Gvir, a member of the far-right "Jewish Power" party, stormed Tuesday the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque despite warnings to stay away from it, which sparked angry reactions from the Palestinians and many Arab countries.
