The European Union (EU) strongly condemned North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile that landed in Japan's economic zone yesterday, expressing its deep concern about "this dangerous, illegal, and reckless act."

In a press release, The European External Action Service (EEAS), stated  "Pyongyang's continuous efforts to develop more weapons of mass destruction threaten all countries of the world."

Moreover, the EU urged North Korea to "immediately cease destabilizing actions that violate United Nations Security Council resolutions and raise international and regional tensions," calling on Pyongyang "to comply with its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions, and to give up all its nuclear weapons and any other weapons of mass destruction."

In addition, The EU added that North Korea can never enjoy the status of a nuclear-weapon state under the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons treaty, calling on Pyongyang to sign and ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

Furthermore, the EU expressed its solidarity with Japan and South Korea, reiterating its call to North Korea to resume meaningful dialogue with all the main parties concerned.

It also stressed that it is ready to support any meaningful diplomatic process, and is committed to working with all relevant partners to build a foundation for peace and security, and take steps aimed at the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
