The European Union (EU) announced on Wednesday its commitment to provide €25 million to support the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in improving educational conditions for 200,000 students in primary government schools in Afghanistan.

These schools face significant challenges, including a shortage of qualified teachers, inadequate water and sanitation facilities, limited teaching and educational resources, as reported by the Afghan news agency "Khama Press" on Wednesday.

The statement further explained that the EU's contribution will enable UNICEF to improve the quality of the current school infrastructure, reaching up to 385 primary government schools, for instance, by renovating classrooms and providing gender-sensitive sanitation facilities.

Additionally, the project will allocate resources for in-service training for teachers, with a focus on improving the quality of education, especially in the early grades of primary education.

The initiative aims to equip teachers with the necessary skills and tools to deliver effective education, thereby contributing to an overall improvement in the educational experience for young learners in Afghanistan
