EU Commission Rejects Two-State Solution for Cyprus

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said, on Tuesday, that the European Union (EU) will never accept a two-state solution for ending the pision of Cyprus.

The EU Commission President told reporters that she had a phone discussion with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the messages he seeks to convey from his visit to the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus.

She said: “I told him that we are very sensitive in this matter, that we will monitor the progress of this visit and that it is absolutely clear that the EU will never accept anything that refers to the two-state solution, adding that the Turkish president knows EU stand in this issue.

Leyen's speeches came in a press conference at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the occasion of handing the EU presidency to Slovenia.
