The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has announced the disbursement of the next tranche of additional total financial assistance to Ukraine, amounting to 1.5 billion Euros. This announcement signifies the EU's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine amidst the relentless conflict with Russia.
In a tweet made earlier this Tuesday, the European Commission President stated, "With Russia continuing its harsh war, we persist in supporting Ukraine. We have disbursed another 1.5 billion Euros today to aid in the continuity of the state functions and the repair of infrastructure."
In addition to this, von der Leyen condemned the Russian actions aiming to destroy the grain storage and port infrastructure in Ukraine. Her tweet concluded with a pledge of further support for the besieged Ukraine, stating, "More will come."
It's worth noting that on December 10, the Council of the European Union agreed to a proposal by the European Commission to allocate additional financial support to Ukraine in 2023. The new program for total financial assistance amounts to 18 billion Euros. The loan funds will be transferred to the state budget in equal parts throughout 2023, taking into account the progress made by Ukraine in meeting the conditions agreed upon by the parties.
