Yehia Zaki, Chairman of Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) received on Tuesday Christian Berger, Ambassador of the European Union to Egypt, and Joanna Capello, Advisor to the EU delegation in Cairo to discuss areas of cooperation and future commercial and economic opportunities, in light of promising investment opportunities in the region.

This comes in light of the development process the region is witnessing, and the political leadership's vision of attracting investments, localizing industries, and establishing industrial bases for major international companies in the SCZone.
During the meeting, Zaki gave a detailed explanation of the authority’s region and the size of the achievements made in terms of infrastructure, facilities, procedures and investments. He also presented the region's strategy in its current five-year plan 2020/25, referring to the high performance rates achieved by the ports of the economic zone, despite the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
On his part, Berger praised the zone's facilities, expressing his confidence in the ongoing development processes that it is witnessing, indicating the European Union's readiness to provide technical support with regard to development work in accordance with the authority's vision over the next five years.

After the meeting, Zaki and Mohamed Shaaban, Vice President of the SCZone for the Southern Region accompanied the ambassador on a field visit to the Suez Industrial Development Company (SIDC), where they were received by Amr El Batrik, who presented the company's activities, services, as well as the size of clients.
El Batrik indicated that the companies operating within the developer, whether local or foreign contributed to the large volume of exports to the Middle East, Africa and Europe, announcing that some industries will be implemented in the coming period, including steel, glass, aluminum, paper and food products, as well as ceramics.
The tour also included the port of Ain Sokhna and the second basin as well the 12 km berths, which will be implemented at the cost of EGP 20 billion.
