Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that Turks are eagerly awaiting the second round of elections to end the era of coups in Turkey.

During a speech on Saturday commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the May 27, 1960 coup, Erdogan said, "After 63 years since the May 27, 1960 coup, we eagerly await the announcement to the whole world tomorrow, Sunday, that the era of coups in Turkey has ended."

He also pointed out the large number of voters who participated in the elections on May 14, describing it as an important indicator of the Turkish people's defense of democracy.

Earlier, Erdogan had stated that his opponents would be "wiped out" after the runoff. Speaking at a rally in the earthquake-hit province of Malatya, Erdogan said that his Justice and Development Party (AKP) won 35.6% of the vote in the parliamentary elections on May 14, while the Republican People's Party led by Kilicdaroglu won 25.4%, securing 169 seats in the new parliament.

However, the AKP gave 15 seats to the Democratic Party of Babacan, and 10 seats each to the Future Party of Ahmet Davutoglu and the Happiness Party of Temel Karamollaoglu, meaning that Kilicdaroglu had given these parties 36 seats on a silver platter.

Erdogan emphasized that all of them would be wiped out afterthe runoff election.

The tension between Erdogan and his opponents has escalated after the first round of elections failed to produce a clear winner, and a runoff election was scheduled for May 28. With the second round just around the corner, all eyes are on Turkey as the country prepares to choose its next government.
