Elon Musk's startup, 'X.AI', has launched a new chatbot named 'Grok', positioning itself as a competitor to the well-known 'ChatGPT' application by OpenAI.

The announcement came just before a conference hosted by OpenAI, signaling a potential shift in the AI-driven chatbot landscape.

'Grok' is currently available to a select group of users in the United States and requires a subscription to the platform's most expensive package, which costs $16 per month in the US and around €19 in Germany on the 'X' platform (formerly known as Twitter).

X.AI's new chatbot, Grok, offers direct access to up-to-date information from the X platform and is designed to handle more provocative queries, which most other systems based on artificial intelligence might decline to answer.

The principle behind chat applications like 'ChatGPT' and now 'Grok' is that they can generate human-level text, word by word, continuing a sentence in a way that a human might. These models are trained on a vast array of texts to refine their responses.

Musk, who also leads the electric vehicle giant Tesla, was once a co-founder of OpenAI but later departed. He has criticized OpenAI's move towards profit, contrasting with its initial non-profit intentions.
