Dr. Mustafa El-Feki, the Alexandria Library Director, said that the Al-Azhar International Conference for the Renewal of Islamic thought is a global gathering that responds to everyone who accuses Al-Azhar of resisting renewal.

Dr. El-Feki added that Al-Azhar conferences are alarm bells portraying potential dangers that must be faced and addressed.

During his speech at the Conference, Dr. El-Feki affirmed that the tours made by the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, east and west were a major reason for correcting many of the misconceptions about Islam.

In addition to the renewal discourse, Azhar is encouraging accepting the other, opening up to other cultures and opening new horizons to live together.

Dr. El-Feki explained that the most dangerous task is to curb the extremist organizations and bloody groups that terrorized the people’s safety and made others underestimate Muslims and insult the Prophet.

“Due to this misconception, others got the audacity to burn the Holy Qur’an,” he added.

On other hand, he explained that the confrontation will be painstaking but it is a general responsibility if people want to live peacefully and be an integral part to today's world.
