Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed the ceasefire in Libya agreement announced by House Speaker Aguila Saleh and Chairman of the Government of National Accord Fayez al-Sarraj.
"I welcome the statements issued by the Presidency Council and the House of Representatives in to cease fire and stop military operations in all Libyan lands," tweeted Sisi on Friday.
President Sisi added that "This is an important step on the road to achieving a political settlement and the aspirations of the its people so as to restore stability and prosperity in Libya and preserve the capabilities of its people."
Sarraj, announced a nationwide ceasefire and ordered its forces to halt all military operations across the country.
The GNA’s chairman also called for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in the upcoming March, according to a statemented signed by Sarraj.
On his part, Speaker Saleh also called for halting all military operations across the state and called for reforming the Presidential Council of State.
Both administrations called for an end to an oil blockade imposed by rival forces since earlier this year.
The UN Support Mission in Libya welcomed both statements, and called for the expulsion of all foreign forces and mercenaries.
