Egypt’s domestic population has officially surpassed 108 million, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The figure, announced Saturday, reflects an increase of one million people since November 2, 2024, when the population stood at 107 million.

CAPMAS noted that the new million was added in 287 days, or nine months and 17 days, compared to 268 days for the previous million and 250 days for the million before that, indicating a gradual slowdown in the pace of population growth.

The agency attributed the trend to a decline in daily birth averages. During the most recent period, Egypt recorded about 5,165 births per day, down from 5,385 in the preceding million increase, and 5,599 in the million before that.

Between November 2024 and mid-August 2025, Egypt registered 1.482 million births, the equivalent of 215 births per hour, or 3.6 births per minute, meaning one new child is born every 16.7 seconds.

The announcement comes amid government efforts to address population growth, which officials have long described as a central challenge to Egypt’s development goals.

Earlier this month, CAPMAS also reported that the country’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% in the second quarter of 2025, suggesting a gradual improvement in labor market dynamics despite persistent demographic pressures.
