Egypt’s population is expected to reach 109 million within days, after increasing by one million in about nine months, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The population stood at 108 million in August 2025, with Cairo remaining the most populous governorate at 10.5 million, followed by Giza Governorate and Sharqia Governorate.
Other densely populated governorates include Dakahlia Governorate and Beheira Governorate, each exceeding 7 million residents, reflecting continued concentration in the Nile Delta region.
Less populated areas include New Valley Governorate and South Sinai Governorate, where population levels remain relatively low compared to the national average.
The continued growth underscores mounting pressure on resources, infrastructure and public services in the country, as authorities seek to manage demographic expansion.
