In a bid to further strengthen strategic ties, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly hosted a meeting today in the New Administrative Capital to discuss expanding cooperation between the Egyptian government and German multinational Siemens.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Asmat, Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, Gaber El-Desouki, and senior Siemens officials such as Waheed Abbas, Head of Energy Services in the Middle East, and Ashraf Hamasa, CEO of Siemens Egypt.

Madbouly opened the meeting by acknowledging Siemens as a key strategic partner for Egypt, especially in the electricity sector. He highlighted the crucial role of the three Siemens-built power plants in the New Administrative Capital, Burullus (Kafr El Sheikh), and Beni Suef, which have been instrumental in stabilizing Egypt’s electricity supply. He also praised Siemens for its pivotal involvement in Egypt’s high-speed electric train project.

“The contributions made by Siemens in enhancing Egypt’s energy infrastructure have been invaluable,” said Madbouly. “Their expertise continues to play a significant role in ensuring the sustainability and efficiency of Egypt’s electricity grid.”

Minister Asmat emphasized the ongoing coordination with Siemens officials to oversee the operation and maintenance of the three major power plants. He noted that discussions are also underway for potential future projects aimed at expanding Egypt’s energy capacity and efficiency.

In his comments, Hamasa reiterated the importance of the Egyptian market to Siemens. “The three plants we have built in Egypt currently supply approximately 35% of the national grid's electricity needs, a figure that rises to 42% during the winter months,” he stated. “Our commitment to Egypt is strong, and we are always looking for ways to deepen our collaboration.”

On his part, Abbas highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to improve gas efficiency at the existing plants. He pointed out that enhancing the use of gas in these facilities could significantly reduce the amount of fuel required, contributing to both economic savings and environmental sustainability. “We remain dedicated to ensuring that these plants operate at the highest levels of efficiency and sustainability,” said Abbas.
