Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Abou Zeid, highlighted significant developments in the political dossier between Egypt and the European Union, particularly regarding the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian issue.

Egypt’s central role in addressing the Gaza crisis positions Cairo as a vital partner to the EU, as the security of the Mediterranean and the Middle East is integral to European security.

During a phone interview on the program "Al-Hayat Al-Youm" with journalist Lobna Assal, aired on "Al-Hayat TV Channel," Abou Zeid discussed Egypt's engagement in Gaza, as well as in Sudan, Libya, and recently the Horn of Africa. These issues have been subjects of extended discussions between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and his European counterparts, evidencing the value and importance of elevating relations between the two entities.

Abou Zeid continued: “The European Union shares a unified vision on the Palestinian issue, advocating for a two-state solution, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and opposing forced displacement. However, positions vary among individual countries, with some like Belgium and Spain taking proactive stances in proposing an international peace conference.”

The spokesperson further noted a consensus among EU countries regarding the situation in Gaza, recognizing Egypt as a strategic partner whose perspective and consultation are essential in managing the situation. The Egyptian stance on the issue, particularly concerning humanitarian aid delivery, the dire situation in the sector, and how to address obstacles, was thoroughly discussed. A key focus is on intensifying efforts to pressure Israel to implement a comprehensive ceasefire.

Abou Zeid also revealed upcoming projects to be discussed with the EU, alongside an impending framework agreement covering cooperation in scientific research and universities, marking new areas of collaboration.
