Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, conducted a field visit on Saturday to the offshore and onshore facilities of North Sinai Petroleum Company in the Mediterranean, where he inspected the latest additions to the company’s natural gas output.
The visit came after the successful commissioning of new wells under the Phase 3B development project, which have added 34 million cubic feet of gas per day to production, with total investments of $67 million. This milestone has boosted the company’s overall output to around 60 million cubic feet per day.
During the tour, Badawi visited an offshore production platform as well as onshore gas processing facilities, reviewing operational performance with company executives and technical teams. He also examined preparations for Phase 4, which is set to require investments of $105 million to further expand production capacity.
The minister emphasized that the addition of new wells reflects the success of Egypt’s petroleum strategy to gradually increase domestic gas output, ensuring energy security and reducing reliance on costly imports. He praised the efforts of North Sinai Petroleum’s workforce and highlighted the fruitful cooperation with Brenco, a subsidiary of the Egyptian-Kuwaiti Holding Company, a key partner in the project.
“These new wells reinforce our commitment to securing the local market’s needs for natural gas, while advancing Egypt’s position as a reliable energy producer,” Badawi said, stressing the ministry’s readiness to provide full support to accelerate the upcoming development phase.
North Sinai Petroleum’s fields are operated under a joint venture between the Petroleum Ministry and Brenco, reflecting the growing role of foreign and regional investment in strengthening Egypt’s energy sector.
Accompanying the minister were Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Mahmoud Abdel Hamid, Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Raafat El-Beltagy, General Manager of Brenco, and Mohamed El-Daghidi, Chairman of North Sinai Petroleum.
