Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty made a landmark visit to Port Sudan, delivering a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council. This marks the first visit by an Egyptian Foreign Minister since the outbreak of Sudan’s crisis in April 2023, reflecting Egypt’s unwavering support for its neighbor during a critical time.
During the meeting, Abdel Aty conveyed El-Sisi’s appreciation for the historic and brotherly ties between Egypt and Sudan, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to aiding Sudan in achieving security and stability. The visit was also a gesture of solidarity, emphasizing the depth of the relationship between the two nations. Abdel Aty highlighted Egypt’s active involvement in international and regional efforts to stabilize Sudan while safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial unity.
In his discussions with Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Youssef Al-Sharif, Abdel Aty stressed Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s leadership and people. He called for an immediate ceasefire and expedited humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict. Both ministers emphasized the importance of working with United Nations agencies and international relief organizations to ensure smooth delivery of aid.
Water security was another key issue, with both sides reaffirming their shared responsibility as downstream Nile basin nations. They pledged to maintain close coordination to protect the water security of Egypt and Sudan, underscoring the strategic importance of the Nile to both countries.
