U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made Tuesday a phone call to Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry to discuss the situation in Sudan.
Blinken first extended condolences on the killing of the assistant to the Egyptian administrative attache in Khartoum, Mohamed al-Gharawy, commending the sacrifices made by diplomats operating in Sudan, which currently suffers from deteriorating security conditions.
The U.S. secretary of state also thanked Egypt on receiving tens of thousands of Sudanese citizens, affirming the United States' readiness to provide the support necessary to facilitate that mission.
The two sides tackled the efforts deployed to achieve an extended and sustainable ceasefire that would allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to those who deserve it in Sudan. Blinken displayed the U.S. endeavors within the Trilateral Mechanism and the Quad, while Shokry presented Egypt's communications within the Arab League, the African Union, as well as with regional and international parties.
The Egyptian minister stressed that no foreign parties shall foment the existing conflict in Sudan, agreeing with his U.S. counterpart to continue consultations in the coming period.
