Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed recent significant developments in the region during a phone call on Thursday with Tor Wennesland, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
In a statement recently issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the call focused on the recent significant developments in the region and the potential risks of escalating tensions that could result in widespread confrontations jeopardizing the stability and well-being of the region's inhabitants.
Abdelatty briefed the UN envoy on his interactions with various international and regional entities to de-escalate the situation and mitigate tensions.
He stressed the importance of international endeavors, particularly those led by the UN and influential global powers, to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and alleviate the humanitarian plight of the Palestinian people in the region.
Moreover, Abdelatty underscored that the persistent crisis in Gaza further complicates the regional landscape and called for Israel to halt its escalation strategies, targeted killings, and encroachments on the sovereignty of neighboring nations, irrespective of the justifications.
On his part, Wennesland expressed the United Nations' and the Secretary-General's profound apprehension regarding the escalating regional tensions.
He expressed gratitude to Egypt for its initiatives in addressing the Gaza crisis and handling its humanitarian and security implications, thereby averting the expansion of the conflict in a manner that imperils regional stability.
Both officials concurred on the necessity to sustain consultations and share evaluations in the forthcoming period.
