Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, held a meeting on January 20, 2025, with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, in Brussels.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Abdelatty commended the strong relations between Egypt and the European Union.
He emphasized the importance of enhanced coordination in light of ongoing developments in the Middle East, underscoring the need to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership to achieve regional security and stability.
During the meeting, Abdelatty highlighted the critical role of the EU High Representative in advancing the partnership between Egypt and the EU.
He welcomed the European financial support extended to Egypt, noting the disbursement of the first tranche of €1 billion from the soft loans component of the European financial package.
He also expressed anticipation for the approval of the second tranche, amounting to €4 billion, which would further solidify economic cooperation.
The discussion also covered the pressing issue of immigration, which Abdelatty described as a shared challenge for both Egypt and the EU.
He stressed the importance of a balanced approach to cooperation in this area, ensuring that the interests and priorities of both sides are met.
The meeting reflects a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and addressing common challenges, paving the way for deeper collaboration between Egypt and the European Union.
