Egypt's FM Heads to Qatar, Saudi Arabia

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry begins this evening, Friday, a Gulf tour that includes Qatar and Riyadh, to head the Egyptian delegation in the work of the joint supreme committee with the State of Qatar, and to meet with the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries within the framework of the political consultation mechanism between Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Council, according to Ahmed Abou Zaid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The official spokesman for the Foreign Ministry explained that Minister Shukri is scheduled to chair tomorrow, Saturday, in the Qatari capital, Doha, with his Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, the work of the joint supreme committee between the Egypt and Qatar.

The committee is expected to address various aspects of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries at the political, economic, and security levels, and mechanisms for their growth and development for the good and interest of the two brotherly peoples, in addition to holding in-depth discussions on regional issues, most notably the Gaza Strip crisis and the efforts of the two countries to implement the calm and stop the war. Abou Zeid noted that the joint committee will witness the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding to enhance cooperation in a number of targeted sectors between the two sides.

The official spokesman added that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head the day after tomorrow (Sunday) to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to chair the work of the consultative meeting between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the GCC, which deals with the frameworks of consultation and coordination between Egypt and the Gulf states at the political and economic levels, and ways to develop and enhance areas of cooperation between the two sides, as well as discussing and coordinating on regional issues in light of these delicate regional conditions.
