Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Friday with Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, to discuss the latest developments in Sudan and efforts to restore stability in the conflict-stricken country.

The call comes as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the United States on issues of mutual concern, particularly regional security challenges.

During the conversation, Abdelatty briefed Boulos on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts at both the regional and international levels to support Sudan. He highlighted Egypt’s recent chairing of a ministerial session of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union focused on developments in Sudan.

The minister also referred to the visit of Kamel Idris, Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan, to Cairo on February 26, describing it as a reflection of the growing momentum in high-level political consultations between the two countries. Abdelatty underscored the importance of supporting Sudan’s state institutions, preserving its unity and territorial integrity, and safeguarding the shared water rights of both nations.

Egypt firmly rejects any attempts to undermine Sudan’s unity or territorial integrity, Abdelatty said, stressing the need to uphold Sudan’s sovereignty and strengthen its national institutions.

He further emphasized the importance of sustained efforts within the framework of the international Quartet, expressing Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination with Washington to advance de-escalation efforts and create conditions conducive to resuming a comprehensive political process in Sudan.

For his part, Boulos expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role in addressing the Sudanese crisis and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to maintaining close consultation and coordination with Cairo. He stressed Washington’s support for initiatives aimed at calming tensions and enhancing prospects for a sustainable political settlement in Sudan.
