Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, met with Sherif Helmy, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority to review progress, implementation milestones, and recent developments in the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, a cornerstone of Egypt’s long-term energy strategy.
The meeting, held at the authority’s headquarters and attended by senior officials overseeing the project, focused on monitoring construction progress, implementation schedules, and adherence to the approved timeline for connecting the plant to Egypt’s national electricity grid. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to meeting established deadlines and completing all phases of the project in accordance with the approved work plan.
During the meeting, Helmy delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the latest developments across the project. He detailed measures taken in recent months to accelerate construction and improve execution efficiency, highlighting ongoing coordination with the Russian side, Egypt’s strategic partner in the project.
The briefing covered progress across multiple workstreams, including construction milestones, workforce development, domestic and international training programs, and preparations for operational teams. Officials emphasized that all activities are proceeding in line with the approved timeline and technical specifications.
The discussions were held within the framework of Egypt’s national strategy, which positions nuclear energy as a key pillar of Vision 2030, supporting sustainable development, meeting rising electricity demand, and strengthening long-term energy security.
Participants reviewed achievements made over the past two months, including progress since the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the first nuclear unit, and examined plans to leverage technical expertise through continued training and capacity-building initiatives for Egyptian personnel.
Esmat underscored that the El Dabaa project receives direct and continuous oversight from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, reflecting its strategic importance as a national infrastructure project with long-lasting economic and developmental benefits.
“El Dabaa is a strategic national investment whose positive impact will extend across generations,” the minister said, describing the plant as a long-term asset for future Egyptians.
He also stressed the depth of cooperation between Egypt and Russia, noting that the project embodies the strong strategic partnership between the two countries and reflects their shared commitment to peaceful nuclear energy use.
The minister reiterated that work on the El Dabaa plant is progressing as planned, with close coordination among Egyptian authorities, Russian partners, and international contractors to ensure timely completion and grid connection.
He emphasized the plant’s role in Egypt’s broader energy strategy, which prioritizes diversifying electricity generation sources, expanding clean and renewable energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and localizing advanced technologies as part of Egypt’s sustainable development agenda.
