Egypt’s Diplomacy Seen as Vital to Curb Regional Provocations, Says FM

Egypt’s diplomacy is increasingly viewed across the region as an essential force for deterring provocations, curbing acts of aggression, and countering what officials described as “illusions of power,” according to statements made by Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

Speaking on Egypt’s regional role, Abdelatty emphasized that Cairo’s diplomatic engagement remains guided by principles of stability, dialogue, and international law, positioning Egypt as a cornerstone of efforts to de-escalate tensions in a volatile regional environment.

In the same context, the minister reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast stance on Libya, underscoring the need to preserve the unity and stability of the Libyan state. He reiterated Cairo’s commitment to supporting a comprehensive, Libyan-led solution and advancing the political process to pave the way for presidential and parliamentary elections.

Addressing another key file, Abdelatty stressed the importance of cooperation within the Nile Basin based on international law and the principle of no significant harm. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures that contravene international law in the Eastern Nile Basin, a veiled reference to ongoing disputes over water projects.

“Egypt will take all necessary measures, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, to protect its water security,” the foreign minister asserted.

Observers note that Egypt’s latest statements reflect a broader diplomatic message — reinforcing its leadership role in promoting regional stability while firmly defending its national interests through lawful and coordinated means.
