Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting Wednesday with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat to follow up the two ministries’ efforts in the field of technology infrastructure development and the increasing of internet speed in the Egyptian public universities.
This came in accordance with the political leadership directives to apply automated cognitive tests (ACT) to all university students in all scientific majors, and to transform Egyptian universities into smart ones.
At the outset of the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar and Talaat affirmed their keenness on maintaining close coordination and constructive cooperation between the two ministries in many fields, in order to achieve sustainable development objectives in Egypt.
Higher Education minister underlined the importance of raising the efficiency of the infrastructure in Egyptian universities to turn them into smart ones, whether at the administrative or educational level.
Moreover, he pointed out that smart-university depends on the use of modern technologies to benefit the educational process and make it more effective and vital.
Additionally, the two sides agreed on preparing a comprehensive plan to develop the technology infrastructure in universities and to apply electronic tests in all majors over two stages; the first one includes (Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nursing), while the 2nd phase will comprise the other majors.
On his part, Talaat pointed out that the plan to implement electronic tests will include the development of the infrastructure through setting up test centers in universities, connecting all colleges with fiber-optic cables, and increasing the internet speed to serve medical sector colleges, as well as the expansion of test centers to accommodate all schools.
