Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reaffirmed Cairo’s support for US President Donald Trump’s peace initiative, stressing Egypt’s commitment to efforts aimed at advancing stability and coexistence in the Middle East.
Speaking on behalf of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during the inaugural meeting of the “Board of Peace” in Washington, Madbouly thanked Trump for convening the gathering and for his direct engagement in regional peace efforts. He said Washington’s involvement had been instrumental in reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, which many had previously viewed as unlikely.
Madbouly affirmed Egypt’s backing for the U.S. plan to launch what he described as a new era of peace and coexistence among the region’s peoples. He stressed that any sustainable settlement must guarantee the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state in line with international legitimacy.
The prime minister also welcomed Trump’s stated rejection of West Bank annexation and underscored the importance of preserving the territorial link between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to enable the Palestinian Authority to resume its responsibilities in Gaza.
He reiterated Egypt’s support for the mandate of the Board of Peace as the overarching framework for managing the transitional phase in Gaza. Madbouly emphasized the need to empower the National Committee for Gaza Administration to operate from inside the territory and across all its areas.
Highlighting Egypt’s ongoing role, he noted that Cairo continues training Palestinian police personnel to help maintain security within the enclave.
Madbouly further praised the U.S. president’s position opposing the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, stressing that reconstruction and early recovery efforts must proceed in a way that preserves the Strip’s geographic unity and supports Palestinians’ continued presence on their land.
He concluded by expressing hope that the Washington meeting would serve as a starting point toward achieving the shared goal of lasting peace.
