Egyptian Musician Hesham Essam Dies After Tragic Accident

Renowned Egyptian oud player Hesham Essam passed away after succumbing to severe injuries sustained in a tragic accident days earlier, following a deterioration in his condition while receiving treatment in hospital.

News of Essam’s death triggered an outpouring of grief across Egypt’s music community and among fans throughout the Arab world. 

Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished oud players of his generation, he left a distinctive mark on contemporary Arabic music through his performances, compositions, and collaborations.

Local media reported that Essam was rushed to hospital after being involved in a serious traffic accident. 

Despite intensive medical care and sustained efforts to stabilize his condition, his health declined in recent hours, leading to his death from complications related to his injuries.

Essam was celebrated for a unique musical style that blended the spirit of the classical Arabic school with a modern, expressive approach. 

Over the course of his career, he built a respected artistic profile, performing at major concerts and festivals in Egypt and abroad. 

His notable appearances included “Recital for Oud” performances at the Cairo Opera House and El Sawy Culturewheel, as well as concerts across several European countries.

Throughout his career, Essam collaborated with prominent Arab artists, including Amr Diab and Hamza Namira, and performed as part of Mohamed Mounir’s band. He also released his acclaimed album “Watar wa Tayr” (“String and Bird”), which showcased his musical vision and technical mastery.
