Badr Abdel Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, received a phone call on Sunday, from Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Foreign Minister (FM), as part of regular consultations between Cairo and Paris to exchange views on developments in Gaza and Lebanon and work toward de-escalation in the Middle East.
Ambassador Tameem Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the French Foreign Minister briefed Abdel Atty on the outcomes of his recent regional tour, which addressed the political and humanitarian developments in Lebanon and the situation in Gaza. This coordination reflects the strong relations between Egypt and France and their mutual commitment to assessing ways to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and to achieve calm.
Moreover, both ministers discussed in detail current efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid amid the severe humanitarian crisis there.
In this regard, Abdel Atty reiterated Egypt's firm rejection and condemnation of Israeli escalation tactics that obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid and prevent UNRWA from fulfilling its role, stressing the importance of empowering the Palestinian Authority.
Moreover, he emphasized the need for international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, ensure calm, fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and provide all forms of humanitarian support.
Abdel Atty also outlined Egypt's efforts to end Lebanon's presidential vacancy crisis and the importance of electing a president through Lebanese consensus without external interference, while supporting Lebanese institutions, especially the Lebanese army.
In this context, FM condemned Israel’s targeting of UNIFIL forces, which violates Lebanese sovereignty and international law.
