On Tuesday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty engaged in a significant telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. The dialogue focused on collaborative strategies to mitigate regional tensions and prevent further escalation of conflicts, reflecting deep concerns about Middle East stability.
During the call, Dr. Abdelatty briefed Minister Wang on his recent interactions with influential global leaders, aimed at containing the worsening situation in the region. He highlighted the dangers of expanding regional conflicts and their severe implications for security and stability.
Ambassador Ahmed Abou Zeid, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, emphasized Egypt's proactive efforts from the crisis's onset. Dr. Abdelatty underscored the collaborative efforts with China and other influential international and regional players to halt the violence in Gaza and restrict the conflict's spread. He criticized Israel's policy of political assassinations and sovereignty violations, which have intensified the crisis and increased regional tension.
Minister Wang was keen to understand Egypt’s assessments regarding the ceasefire negotiations and the roles Egypt, Qatar, and the United States are playing to achieve an immediate and enduring ceasefire. This effort aims to alleviate the Palestinian people's suffering and ensure the swift and safe delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Abou Zeid also highlighted Dr. Abdelatty's appreciation of China's involvement in Palestinian reconciliation efforts. The Egyptian minister reaffirmed the commitment to continued collaboration with China to support Palestinian rights, end the Gaza war, and enhance Middle Eastern stability.
The ministers also discussed the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and China. Dr. Abdel Aaty expressed enthusiasm about building on the momentum of frequent high-level exchanges, especially as this year marks the tenth anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, dubbed the "Year of Egyptian/Chinese Partnership."
Minister Wang concluded the call by congratulating Dr. Abdelatty on his recent appointment and looking forward to advancing Egyptian-Chinese relations further. Both parties agreed on the importance of sustained close coordination and consultation on key regional and international issues within multilateral frameworks.
