Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a phone call today with his Malian counterpart, Abdullah Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali. This interaction underscores the strengthening ties between Egypt and Mali and highlights their mutual dedication to regional stability and counterterrorism efforts.

Ambassador Ahmed Abou Zeid, the spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, reported that the ministers praised the excellent relations between their countries. Minister Abdel Aaty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the special relationship shared with Mali and emphasized the significant role Mali plays in the Sahel region. He affirmed Cairo's commitment to continuous consultation and coordination with Bamako on various bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

During the conversation, Minister Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt's ongoing efforts to enhance stability in the Sahel region. He highlighted Egypt's support for national governments in their fight against terrorist groups and the spread of violence. This support is exemplified through Egypt's assistance in counterterrorism and capacity building in relevant fields. This includes training programs organized by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and the Cairo Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), which conducts training sessions in Bamako for Malian religious leaders on preventing extremism and terrorism.

Minister Abdel Aaty also shed light on the role of the Azhar Mission in Mali, which contributes to spreading the concepts of moderate Islam, thus aiding in the efforts to combat extremism.

From his side, the Malian Foreign Minister expressed his country's keen interest in intensifying coordination and consultation with Egypt on all regional issues of shared interest. He thanked Egypt for the training courses provided to build Malian capacities and transfer diverse expertise across various fields, thereby strengthening national institutions.
