An EgyptAir flight en route to Douala, Cameroon, was forced to make an emergency landing in Libya after a passenger went into labor. The incident occurred shortly after the plane departed from Cairo International Airport, prompting the pilot to change the flight's course and land at the nearest airport, Kufra International Airport in southeastern Libya.
The flight was progressing normally when a Cameroonian passenger suddenly experienced intense labor pains. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the pilot immediately contacted air traffic control and requested an emergency landing at the nearest available airport. Kufra International Airport, known for its strategic location in southern Libya, was identified as the best option for a swift response.
Upon receiving the emergency landing request, the medical teams at Kufra Airport quickly mobilized. Obstetricians, paramedics, and an ambulance were on standby to assist with the delivery. However, the baby couldn’t wait for the hospital and was delivered safely on board the aircraft, with the help of the medical team that had boarded the plane immediately upon its landing. The mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and both mother and child were in stable condition.
After the successful delivery, the mother and her newborn were transferred to the Women and Children's Hospital in Kufra for further medical evaluation and care. The swift actions of the EgyptAir crew and the medical teams ensured that both the mother and her baby received the necessary care during this critical moment.
Following the medical emergency, EgyptAir resumed its journey to Douala. Kufra International Airport confirmed that the plane had departed safely, with the remaining passengers and crew continuing their journey to Cameroon.
