Egypt welcomed on Friday the decision of the Republic of Armenia to officially recognize the State of Palestine, as a step in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to end the Israeli occupation and establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Egypt - in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - appreciated the support of Armenia for the just Palestinian cause, calling for the continuation of those efforts from all parties of the international community; in an effort to create a political horizon that allows for the revival of a real peace process that addresses the roots and causes of the Palestinian issue, and restores the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, most importantly their right to establish their independent state.
Egypt called on influential international parties to carry out their moral and historical responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, and to intervene to preserve their rights at this time when they are facing extremely difficult humanitarian conditions, and to work to put an end to the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, and to recognize the Palestinian state as an important step towards a just settlement of the Palestinian issue.
