US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright received Karim Badawi, the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum at the opening of the 2nd day of the 10th Africa Energy Summit hosted in the US capital Washington on March 6-7.
The Ministry of Petroleum stated in a statement, Friday, that the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries and transfer expertise in the field of energy, which has witnessed remarkable development over the years, whether at the bilateral, regional or international levels.
"This was clearly evident in the entry of a number of U.S. companies for the first time into the field of research and exploration in Egypt, most notably Chevron and ExxonMobil," the minister pointed out.
The meeting also discussed enhancing cooperation with U.S. companies to develop the fields of the Eastern Mediterranean region and bring the gas produced from those fields to Egypt to connect to the Egyptian liquefaction facilities, which was recently crowned by the agreement signed in Cairo with Chevron during the opening ceremony of the "EGYPES 2025" conference to develop gas resources from the Cypriot Aphrodite field and connect it to the liquefaction facilities in Egypt.
The two sides agreed to hold an expanded bilateral meeting next Tuesday, as part of the CERA week activities.
