Egypt’s Foreign Minister said on Tuesday that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) must be allowed to deliver its aid trucks into the Gaza Strip, stressing the urgency of easing the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn enclave.
The minister said that Cairo is engaged in “intensive efforts” to both halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza and ensure the entry of humanitarian assistance to civilians trapped inside the territory.
Egypt has long positioned itself as a key mediator in regional conflicts, particularly in the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. Since the escalation of fighting in Gaza, Egypt has pushed for ceasefire initiatives while coordinating with international and regional partners to facilitate the flow of food, medicine, and fuel through the Rafah border crossing.
UN agencies and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned of deteriorating conditions in Gaza, where shortages of basic supplies have deepened amid continued hostilities. Aid convoys, including those operated by UNRWA, have faced severe obstacles in accessing the enclave due to security restrictions.
Cairo has repeatedly called on all parties to protect civilians and comply with international humanitarian law, underscoring its role in diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and relief delivery.
