Speaker of the UK House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle met with Egypt’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Ashraf Swelam, to discuss ways to further strengthen the long-standing historical relations between Egypt and the UK and enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the vital role played by parliamentary institutions in supporting bilateral relations. They expressed a shared interest in expanding cooperation between the Egyptian and British parliaments, including intensifying the exchange of parliamentary visits and expertise.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle conveyed his aspiration to visit Egypt in the near future, praising the country’s civilizational and historical significance. He also expressed particular interest in visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum, noting its global prominence as one of the world’s most significant cultural and heritage projects.

On his part, Ambassador Swelam underscored the depth of the historical ties between Egypt and the United Kingdom, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between the two countries across political, economic, and other sectors.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation, dialogue, and coordination with the British side in a way that supports bilateral relations and serves the interests of both nations and peoples.

The meeting also addressed prospects for Egyptian-British relations in the coming period, particularly in light of preparations for the anticipated visit of the British Prime Minister to Cairo. Both sides viewed the visit as a key opportunity to advance bilateral relations and deepen partnership, especially as it is expected to coincide with the announcement of elevating relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
