Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, held a telephone call with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.

The phone call came as part of the ongoing consultation between Cairo and Ankara to advance bilateral relations and exchange assessments on regional issues of mutual concern.

The call addressed prospects for strengthening Egyptian-Turkish ties, building on the recent positive momentum.

In this regard, the two ministers reviewed ongoing preparations for the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, to be chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the first quarter of 2026.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of this meeting in supporting the bilateral partnership, particularly in economic, trade, and investment fields, to maximize the shared interests of the two friendly nations.

Regarding regional files, both ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Gaza Strip amidst the tragic humanitarian conditions.

In the same context, Abdelatty stressed the necessity of stabilizing the ceasefire and moving forward with the requirements of the second phase of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement.

He also highlighted the importance of initiating transitional arrangements, ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and starting early recovery and reconstruction, while reaffirming the total rejection of any practices that undermine Palestinian territorial integrity, including ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank.

Furthermore, the two ministers discussed developments in Yemen, affirming the importance of calm, de-escalation, and prioritizing dialogue and consensus over unilateral actions to ensure the security and stability of the Yemeni people.

In connection with developments in the Horn of Africa, the two ministers expressed their absolute rejection of the Israeli recognition of the so-called "Somaliland," describing it as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter that undermines regional and international peace and security.

They noted that this position is shared by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and all countries in the region, emphasizing their support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

They also rejected any unilateral measures that would infringe upon Somali sovereignty or destabilize the country.

Concluding the call, the ministers agreed to maintain coordination and consultation in the coming period to support regional stability and further enhance bilateral relations.
