Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has announced that private companies will be offered contracts to manage and run airports.
The announcement came after he met with over 20 international firms in the transport, logistics, and shipping sectors in Cairo.
During the meeting, they discussed potential projects to improve transport in Egypt. Participants included CEOs from companies such as Siemens, Hutchison, Alstom, DP World, and Abu Dhabi Ports. Madbouly emphasized Egypt's interest in partnering with the private sector on transport initiatives, especially in the operation of maritime ports or dry ports.
The government is seeking to increase the private sector's role in the economy, including in transport services.
In December, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi approved a plan to reduce state involvement in some sectors, including transportation.
