Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated that the Cairo Emergency Summit was a crucial event that successfully blocked displacement plans and secured broad Arab and Islamic support for Egypt’s Gaza reconstruction plan. He noted that the plan, initially Egyptian, became an official Arab-Islamic initiative after being approved by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Abdelatty confirmed that efforts are underway to implement the summit’s outcomes, including an international trust fund to manage financial commitments for reconstruction and a separate fund for orphaned children. Cairo will host a Gaza reconstruction conference next month with international donors, including the United Nations and the World Bank.
He added that Egypt has secured support from 57 Arab and Islamic countries, along with backing from the UK, Spain, France, Germany, the European Union, and Japan. Discussions have also taken place with China, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, and the African Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, all expressing strong willingness to support the plan.
Egypt remains committed to rebuilding Gaza while ensuring that no Palestinian is forced to leave their homeland.
