Egypt’s Ministry of Transport announced a 50% reduction in full-fare ticket prices for passengers using the first phase of the East Nile Monorail, as part of efforts to encourage greater use of modern public transportation systems.

Under the new decision, the discounted fares will apply every Friday and Saturday, in addition to official public holidays, for a period of three months starting Friday, according to an official ministry statement.

The ministry said the initiative is aimed at encouraging citizens to rely more on modern mass transit solutions, helping reduce traffic congestion while saving commuters time and effort. Officials also emphasized the government’s broader push to improve urban mobility through safer, faster, and more affordable transportation options.

Authorities confirmed that the monorail will continue operating with fully modernized trains and high service standards across its 16 stations, which include key stops such as Al-Mosheer Tantawy, One Ninety, Air Hospital, Al-Narges, Investors, Lotus, Golden Square, Beit Al-Watan, Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque, the R1 and R2 districts, the Financial and Business District, the City of Arts and Culture, the Government District, Egypt Mosque, and the City of Justice in the New Administrative Capital.

The ministry also said discounted half-fare tickets for senior citizens over the age of 60 and people with disabilities will remain unchanged. Weekly, monthly, and quarterly subscription prices will also continue at current rates.

According to the statement, subscription packages already offer discounts of up to 50% off regular ticket prices, making the monorail significantly cheaper than many alternative transportation methods.

The ministry described the monorail project as a major step forward for Egypt’s public transportation sector, saying the system represents a modern urban transit model aligned with the latest international transportation technologies and standards.
