Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, and Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohieddin Salem, jointly honoured members of an Egyptian medical team that recently took part in a humanitarian medical convoy to Sudan, during a ceremony held on Tuesday at the headquarters of Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was organised by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development on the sidelines of Abdelatty’s reception of his Sudanese counterpart. The ceremony recognised the Egyptian doctors who participated in the medical convoy that visited Sudan from 20 to 27 December 2025, in appreciation of their humanitarian and professional efforts in supporting Sudan’s health sector.

In his remarks, Egypt’s foreign minister praised the vital role played by Egyptian medical convoys in supporting the Sudanese people, stressing that the initiative reflects directives from Egypt’s political leadership to strengthen humanitarian and development assistance to Sudan. He said the mission was carried out through close coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, and included 13 senior consultants, both male and female, specialising in six advanced surgical disciplines.

The medical team provided free treatment and surgical services at Prince Osman Digna Referral Hospital and the Ports Authority Hospital, helping to ease the burden on Sudanese citizens and reinforce the capacity of local health institutions.

Sudan’s foreign minister expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s continued support for the Sudanese people, commending the humanitarian and medical assistance provided by Cairo. He also praised the high professional standards of the Egyptian medical team and the quality services delivered during the convoy, noting that such initiatives reflect the depth of fraternal ties and historic relations between the two countries and contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector for the benefit of both nations.
