Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates’ Affairs Badr Abdelatty met with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares on Friday, on the sidelines of the 10th Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Regional Forum.

The meeting forms part of the ongoing political consultations between Cairo and Madrid aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and aligning positions on key regional developments.

According to Tameem Khallaf, the official spokesperson for Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s appreciation for the positive trajectory of relations between the two countries. He highlighted that ties have undergone a qualitative leap since they were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s landmark visit to Madrid in February 2025.

The Egyptian minister expressed Cairo’s eagerness to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges in the coming period and to build on the outcomes of this year’s reciprocal presidential and royal visits. Such steps, he stressed, are essential to deepening the strategic partnership and opening broader avenues for cooperation.

Abdelatty also welcomed the growing bilateral cooperation across economic and investment sectors, calling for intensified engagement in the near future. He emphasized the importance of expanding joint work in tourism, culture, education, healthcare, and migration, areas where both countries see significant potential.

Turning to regional issues, the Egyptian Foreign Minister praised Spain’s principled and supportive stance toward Palestinian rights, including Madrid’s recognition of the State of Palestine in May 2024.

He reaffirmed the importance of the full implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, efforts to solidify the ceasefire, and progress on UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which calls for the deployment of an international stabilization force in Gaza under UN peacekeeping frameworks. Abdelatty also urged continued support for Gaza’s reconstruction and recovery efforts.

The minister expressed Egypt’s hope for a strong Spanish role in the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, which will be hosted by Egypt.
