Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the possibility of the Hantavirus entering Egypt remains very low, stressing that the country has a strong infectious disease surveillance system.

Speaking in a television interview on Tuesday, Abdel Ghaffar said health authorities have raised preparedness and monitoring levels at all ports of entry.

He added that there is no scientific evidence suggesting a repeat of the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the virus was first identified in 1978 and has not caused widespread community transmission.

The spokesman explained that Hantavirus spreads mainly through rodents and their waste and does not easily transmit between humans.

He said symptoms include fever, fatigue, and respiratory problems, while severe cases may lead to organ failure and bleeding complications.
